Jorge Martin will enter the final of the MotoGP world championship with a great advantage. While he was 17 points ahead of his Pecco Bagnaia before the last round, in Malaysia, the Spaniard took advantage of the latter's fall in the Sprint to regain precious points in the championship. He will therefore arrive in Barcelona with 24 lengths more than his rival.
This means that the Pramac driver will have two match points to close the race for the title, and become world champion in Catalonia. A first during the Sprint, and a second the next day, in the main race, if he has not yet achieved it.
To lift the champion trophy on Saturday, Martin will have to score two more points than Bagnaia at the end of the Sprint. He would thus have a 26-point lead over his opponent, who could no longer hope to close the gap, while only 25 are at stake on Sunday.
As a reminder, Jorge Martín will not be able to settle for a tie in the championship, and must absolutely finish the season with more points than Bagnaia. This scenario would indeed see the Italian pocket the title, the latter having the advantage of the greatest number of victories, namely 10 against 3 after 19 meetings. If he starts the main race with a 25-point lead over No. 1, Martin could still lose everything.
