MotoGP Malaysia J3, Alex Rins (Yamaha/8): “I was unlucky with this red flag”

We talk a lot about Fabio Quartararo's performance in Malaysia, but Alex Rins also took his best result of the year at Sepang! Eighth at the time of taking the checkerboard, the Spaniard was not unworthy, far from it. This confirms Yamaha's recent progress, which continues to move closer to its goal. However, there was perhaps a way to do better: Rins was the author of a big start before the red flag was shown because of the fall of his teammate, mixed with that of the KTM officials.

Alex Rins can be satisfied. He had never done better than ninth in a Grand Prix in 2024, which is quite paradoxical considering his 2023 season. Remember, with Honda, he won a race after only the third round.
« It was a good race. We are better. Within the limits of our possibilities, we have taken a step forward and this is my best result with Yamaha so far. Honestly, on Saturday I felt pretty good on the bike. We had no luck with this red flag.
I had an incredible start and fought with Marc Marquez »
he declared immediately.

It must have been very strange for him to find himself propelled to the front, in the company of Marc Marquez. The opportunity to remember this incredible game at Silverstone in 2019. Those years may be far away, but the desire is still there for Rins.
« At the restart, I tried again to give the best of myselfI tried to control the tires as much as possible” he continued.

These results are encouraging for Iwata's firm, of course, but the final goal is still far away. The blues want to progress, again and again. « We still need to improve tire conservation, but we are working well. Let's see what we can do in the last round. We will try our best again and see if we can improve. » he concluded.
