Jorge Martin tried to put pressure on Pecco Bagnaia on the first day in Malaysia, but the Italian was unfazed. First in FP1 then in Practice, he ideally starts his weekend at Sepang, a circuit he particularly likes. The Ducati official was flamboyant, but Jorge Martin, despite a fall and a few mistakes, remained in his race. Clearly, it will be difficult for him to get rid of his rival, especially if Bastianini, Marquez or a surprising Maverick Vinales do not come in.
Bagnaia was particularly satisfied with this first day on this magnificent track designed by Tilke. « The times were really fast, the feeling is great. Today we didn't waste any time. We were able to do a lot of laps with a good average, and try both bikes, which is important. Jorge Martin was more consistent because he started with new tires »
he told Sky Sports.
However, there are still some difficulties to overcome on this oh-so-technical circuit. « I lack feeling in the second sector, at turn 5. For the rest, it's okay. We don't use the brakes in this corner, it's all about position on the bike.
It is set more “on the back” and that helps me throughout the tour, except here. »
he continued, going into detail.

Of course, he had a little word for his rival, but without the slightest hint of animosity, and even without mentioning what happened at the end of FP1: Martin came to stick with Bagnaia for him remember that he was there (see video above):
« It is difficult to achieve perfect balance on this track. Jorge Martin is very strong at turn 5, but we improved at turn 12 as well.
Clearly we have made progress » he concluded.
