MotoGP, Australia J3, Alex Marquez (Ducati/15): “after so many falls it’s not easy to regain confidence”

Alex Marquez started the Australian Grand Prix weekend with a lot of promise, setting an excellent second fastest time during Friday practice. However, Sunday was marked by complications from the start, between a touch at the first corner and a long lap penalty to be served from the Japanese Grand Prix. The Spaniard never managed to regain his initial pace and finished the race in a lowly 15th position.

« My plan was to get a good start, which I did », commented Alex after the race. “ But from the first turn, I felt contact in the back and my suit was marked by the rubber of a tire. It’s a race, the first turns are always intense. Then I was last, I moved up two or three places, but the long lap put me back again. It was difficult. »

Despite a promising start to the weekend, Alex admits that expectations were not met: “ we started very well, but we have stagnated. I think we are very close to taking a new step to regain confidence. We come from a bad serieswith many unforeseen things like in Indonesia or Misano. We have to overcome these obstacles and try to be stronger for the last three races.

Alex Marquez :
« the objective is to leave with better sensations from Thailand and Malaysia »

Alex’s race was also complicated by a problem with his brother Marc from the start, which added to the confusion of the first corner: “ This had already happened to me in Aragon with Pecco Bagnaia and today with Marc. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t go well at all. »

Despite his setbacks, the pilot
Gresini Ducati remains optimistic about the rest of the season: “ we still need to understand what went wrong with the new asphalt, but I think we are close to finding our rhythm again. After so many falls, like in Misano, Aragon and Indonesia, it is not easy to regain confidence. »

Ranked 15th, Alex Marquez still collects a point which keeps him in the race for the top 10 in the championship. “ Fifteenth place is not what I was hoping for, but it allows us to stay in the fight for 12th place in the general classification. Now, the objective is to leave with better sensations from Thailand and Malaysia », concluded Alex, determined to finish the season in style.
