The punishment falls in MotoGP, 1 rider penalized, the classification redesigned! – Le Mag Sport Auto

This doesn’t happen often, in a sprint race. And yet, the short event of the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix was ultimately impacted, after the checkered flag, by a penalty. Indeed, after checking the tire pressures, a driver was penalized for 8 seconds.

MotoGP: other penalties to come?

And it is none other than Fabio di Giannantonio, initially classified fifth in this sprint, who is punished. The VR46 Ducati rider therefore loses his place and finds himself seventh in the hierarchy. A sentence which benefits two riders, namely, Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia), now positioned, respectively, fifth and sixth.

In addition to this sanction, another, probably quite severe, should also fall after the rather impressive collision involving Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) and Maverick Vinalès (Aprilia). The commissioners are currently looking into this case and the transalpine could be sanctioned. In addition, the person concerned is not yet guaranteed to participate in the rest of the weekend, due to the heavy fall suffered this morning.

“After an examination at the circuit medical center, Marco Bezzecchi goes to Melbourne for additional examinations. No fractures were diagnosed.”we could read in a press release from VR46.

Here are the new standings for the Phillip Island MotoGP sprint.

  1. Jorge Martin
  2. Marc Marquez
  3. Enéa Bastianini
  4. Francesco Bagnaia
  5. Franco Morbidelli
  6. Raul Fernandez
  7. Fabio di Giannantonio
  8. Aleix Espargaro
  9. Augusto Fernandez
  10. Luca Marini
