Moto2 Australia P2: Rain freezes the rankings for Q2

Moto2 enters the final Sprint of its season with the Australian Grand Prix, contested on the famous Phillip Island circuit. A meeting generally very appreciated by the drivers, which will offer a first opportunity to Ai Ogura to end the title race. While he has 60 points more than his closest pursuer, the Japanese could be crowned world champion if he ends the weekend with at least 75 lengths ahead of all those entered. On Friday morning, it was Aron Canet who stood out under the drops. Fermin Aldeguer then set the best time in P2 in the dry. The weather will be capricious again this Saturday, when it’s time to compete in the P2 Moto2 in Australia.

Before we begin, here is a table which summarizes the known facts:

From the start of this day, the drivers who did not manage to qualify in the top-14 at the end of P1 knew their chances of catching up were almost zero this Saturday. While the Phillip Island circuit was once again hit by showers, the wind had to be added to that.

In other words, P2 this Saturday morning will have no impact on the rest of the weekend, and the time given to the Moto2 riders could be used to prepare for the rest of the weekend.

Few drivers left their garage when the lights went out. During the first minutes of driving, only seven of them completed a time. Afterwards, however, the track seemed to evolve, and the track filled up little by little.

On the timing side, Senna Agius quickly posted a lap in 1:43.722 to put himself in front. However, Jake Dixon also dances in the rain, and never stops returning the favor to the scorer.

Other drivers will ultimately take part in this fight for the lead, but the No. 81 still responds with ever faster attempts, without the track changing significantly.

In front of the checkered flag, Agius was untouchable, and set the best time in a session which was ultimately of little use. In total, 18 drivers recorded a time, some on the contrary avoided any risk, as is the case of the championship leader, Ai Ogura.
