MotoGP, Gigi Dall’Igna protests: “those who say we won’t let Jorge Martin win don’t know my story”

The 2024 MotoGP season takes a short break before its final four races, with the title in sight for two Ducati riders: Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac and the current champion, Pecco Bagnaia of the factory team. Only ten points separate the two, presaging a thrilling and contested end to the championship. With four riders at the top of the general classification, Ducati once again confirms its incredible domination of the championship, which it has maintained for three seasons. At the heart of this rise is Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, who has become the architect of a reign that is as technical as it is strategic.

Faced with rumors of possible favoritism towards Bagnaia,
Dall’Igna took a very clear position during an interview for La Gazzetta dello Sport relayed by Todocircuito, affirming his attachment to sporting justice:
“Those who say we won’t let Jorge Martin win don’t know my story », declares the Italian engineer, recalling that for him, “ the best must win. » Ducati has therefore taken the decision to freeze any technical updates, notably by refusing to introduce the new chassis tested at Misano. This decision, motivated by a concern for equality, was difficult but necessary: Ducati wants its riders to fight on equal terms until the end.

Gigi Dall’Igna: « I will do everything possible to ensure that neither internal politics nor personal preferences disrupt the title fight »

This internal equity recalls the historical tensions between
Jorge Lorenzo et Valentino Rossi
chez Yamaha. Dall’Igna highlighted the differences between these two rivalries by explaining: “ At the time, there was a wall. Today, Jorge and Pecco share all the dataand we provide exactly the same work for both drivers. » Respect between
Martin et Bagnaia is also obvious, and Dall’Igna hopes that this healthy competition will persist until Valencia. “ I will do everything possible for the best to win, and to ensure that neither internal politics nor personal preferences disrupt the fight for the title “, he added.

Changes in the personnel market in the world of MotoGP are also attracting interest, notably the arrival of
Roman Albesianformer technical director ofApriliachez Honda HRCand that of Fabiano Sterlacchiniformer Ducati engineer, who joined Aprilia coming from
KTM. Dall’Igna shared his opinion on these transfers, noting the importance for Honda
to achieve better competitiveness, but also highlighting the challenges that this represents: “ Albesiano will have to adapt to a new work culture ; it won’t be easy “, he clarified. As for
SterlacchiniDall’Igna remains skeptical:
“I honestly don’t think he was Aprilia’s first choice. »

Asked about his own refusal to join HondaDall’Igna confided that it was important to build a team over the long term. “ Setting up a structure takes time and you need the right people to express ideasconcepts and new solutions “, he explains. In this sense, its commitment to
Ducati is total, reflecting the dynamics and stability that the manufacturer seeks to preserve in MotoGP.

While the
championship comes to an end, the suspense remains.
Ducatiunder the leadership of
Gigi Dall’Ignawill ensure that the battle remains fair and thrilling, guaranteeing a duel where only the best will triumph.
