“Game over for the title race”

Relegated to 78 points behind Jorge Martin after the Indonesian Grand Prix, Marc Marquez says he is offside in the title race. This was what the Spaniard said during the press conference for the Japanese Grand Prix, the best moments of which are condensed below.

Fourth in the championship, 78 points behind the leader: “Bastianini and I couldn’t make a mistake or we would fall out of the title fight, and that’s what happened. As long as there is a chance, you never know, but I always said it would be very difficult. It seems the title race is lost for me. I already had a big points disadvantage, and with the white result in Indonesia, the difference is too big. »

What to aim for now: “We have to look at the positive: during these next races, I will be calmer to work on my limits. I will try to continue to find this consistency in the results that I started to have in Austria, and work on the difficult points, in particular the qualification. »

The Motegi track: “Stop and go circuits are good for my driving style, we’ll see what I can do this year. The Ducati brakes well and accelerates well, those are its strong points, but I also expect the KTMs to be very fast because they are very strong in these corners. Last year in the sprint, Binder finished second and Miller fourth. »

The risk of rain: “When I’m fighting for the title, I prefer wet, especially if I have to regain points, because it increases the chances. But today I am no longer in this fight, I don’t care, I will try to adapt to each situation. »

The fight for the title: “The fastest at the moment is Martin. He is constantly ahead in all situations. Maybe because he has more points or because of what we see on track, Martin has a chance to win, but of course, you never know. »

The GP23 with less traction than the GP24? “I will be able to respond in Valencia. I don’t really know what to say. The perfect motorcycle does not exist, one will be better in one area and less good in another. The important thing is to find the best balance. If they changed something on the GP24, it’s because they found something better. »
