MotoGP, Marc Marquez remains upset by his retirement in Indonesia: “these things cannot happen”

The Indonesian Grand Prix appears to have sealed Marc Marquez’s fate in the 2024 MotoGP title race, but it was an entirely different event that angered the Spanish champion. After retiring due to an engine failure on his Ducati, a fire broke out, and it was the disastrous handling of this incident by the stewards that really put Marquez beside himself.

While he was seventh in
Mandalika and began to go back up,
Ducati suffered a sudden breakdown which quickly caused a fire. “ These things happen in racing“, he commented calmly after the incident. However, what really upset
Marquezit is the flagrant unpreparedness of the sports commissioners present on the track. The fire, initially limited, worsened due to the slowness and inefficiency of the marshals in reacting, as well as the use of obsolete fire extinguishers.

« When I saw the fire, I immediately notified the commissioners, but their fire extinguishers were not up to par“, said one Marquez
visibly irritated, mentioning: “ these things can’t happen “. The lack of adequate equipment to handle this type of situation allowed the flames to completely devastate its Ducati. « The motorcycle was completely destroyedeven the brakes burned“, he added bitterly.

Marc Marquez :
« the engine suddenly failed »

For a private MotoGP team like
Gresini Racingthis loss is a big blow. The cost of repairing damage to a MotoGP bike is colossal, and it creates a real hole in the team’s budget. Moreover, it was not just a motorcycle in poor condition: the engine that Marquez used was relatively new and should allow him to complete the season in better conditions. “ He gave no warning, it suddenly broke down. I was also on my personal best lap“, explained the pilot.

Pour Marc Marquezthis mishap was all the more frustrating as it could have been avoided if the commissioners had been properly equipped. Hopefully the team Gresini can quickly overcome this episode, because for them, the consequences of this fire go far beyond simple lost points.
