MotoGP technique: What we won’t see anymore, and that’s a shame!

2027 will see MotoGP transfigured, castrated some would say, by technical regulations which impose, among other things, a reduction in displacement to 850cc, reduced aerodynamic appendages, as well as the capacity of the tanks, the weight and the number of engines.

Among these restrictions is also the ban on the latest trim correction devices, including Holeshot systems for departure, thus continuing the ban on “forward” trim correction devices already in force since 2023.

The straight line of the Mandalika circuit is not very long, 507 meters, but it nevertheless allows the motorcycles to be lowered at the exit of the last turn in order to combat wheeling initially, then to offer a better coefficient of penetration in the air and thus offering us, crushed to the ground, a spectacle that we will no longer see in 2027. Too bad, because we really appreciate the bestial side of the thing, also visible during the departure tests carried out after the Practice !

Yesterday, the Michelin photographer was able to capture spectacular shots with motorcycles, although they no longer had a Front Height Device, with very crushed fronts. This is undoubtedly not a consequence of the ever more developed fins and generating a support of several tens of kilos (around 50) on the fork, but more simply from the photos taken at the end of the straight line during the start tests, before that the motorcycles do not brake and disengage the fork lock….
