MotoAmerica – New Jersey: Loris Baz on provisional pole

This weekend already marks the end of the 2024 MotoAmerica season. To conclude in style, the discipline goes to New Jersey. Meeting at the end of which we will know the name of the next champion. If everything is still mathematically possible, Josh Herrin has a lead which should allow him to take the crown at the end of the last two events of the year.

Free Trials:

Loris Baz tamed the test session in New Jersey to start the last weekend of the season in the best possible way. Running in 1:34.389, the Frenchman put down his competitors, to claim the lead with half a second ahead of his closest pursuer, Cameron Petersen (1:34.816).

Cameron Beaubier set the third time during this first Friday session, one second behind the French driver. His rival and favorite to win the 2024 title this week, Josh Herrin, is however only eighth. Nothing to worry about for the Ducati rider, who can be satisfied with a top-10 to be crowned at the end of race 1.

This first part of the day was not fought out in the dry, as evidenced by everyone’s times.

Qualification 1 :

Loris Baz continues, and completes a Friday in mixed conditions in the best possible way at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). The Frenchman set a time of 1:22.737 (on sticks this time) to claim provisional pole position.

An attempt came close to the wire, which relegated Cameron Beaubier to second place. The BMW driver (1:23.150) is still more than four tenths behind. His rival, Josh Herrin, should have no difficulty qualifying well, as he completed Q1 in 1:23.931, to secure a provisional place on the second row, in fourth position.

Cameron Petersen was fifth thanks to a time of 1:24.057, after setting the second fastest time in the morning. Sean Dylan Kelly struggles to find his rhythm, and sets the seventh time in 1:24.618.

It remains to be seen whether Loris Baz will be able to confirm in Qualifications 2 this afternoon, while his teammate affirmed that no team instructions would work in his favor to help him win the title, as the situation is favorable.
