MotoGP, Indonesia, Fabio Quartararo: Never two without three?

As he leaves the Misano circuit in Italy for the Mandalika circuit in Indonesia, Fabio Quartararo has at least two reasons to be eager to take to the track on Friday morning to start the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix: to greet the incredibly passionate local fans at this third race on Indonesian soil, but also and above all, to find out if the step forward made on the Adriatic coast will be confirmed at a normal round, without preliminary tests and without two GPs on the same track.

Fabio Quartararo arrives in Indonesia eager to see if he can repeat the positive race weekend he had at the Emilia Romagna GP. He has fond memories of the race at the Mandalika circuit, where he achieved a second place in 2022 and a third place in 2023. He hopes to achieve a good result again this time and bring joy to his many Indonesian fans. If the saying “never two without three” were to be true, it would obviously be a great satisfaction for the entire Yamaha team.

“We start the overseas tour, which is always exciting. We don’t see our fans here very often, and they support me a lot, so I always enjoy these GPs a lot. I also like the Mandalika circuit. I was on the podium there in 2022 and 2023. We will do our best again this year. We took a step forward in Misano, so I’m curious to see what we can do this weekend.”

7th in the last GP, but certainly 5th without the fuel shortage in the last corner, the Frenchman hopes to confirm in Asia the progress made in Italy. More motivated than ever after having enjoyed himself in Misano, the official Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider expects the track conditions to be decisive, and does not find any reason for concern in returning to a normal program…

“Maybe no worries, but especially the conditions, it will be quite important, so we will try to give the maximum and see if we can do something positive.”

The 4.310 km Mandalika International Circuit was built on the island of Lombok. Its layout includes 11 right-handers and 6 left-handers, many of which are fast, and its longest straight is only 507 m, which is no disadvantage to the latest version of the less powerful but more agile YZR-M1…

Massimo MeregalliTeam Director:
“We went straight from Misano to Mandalika. This week Alex will be back at work, which allows us to come back strong. The weekend in Emilia Romagna was very positive for our team as a whole. The hard work is paying off and we want to keep this positive trend going. After riding for a long time in Misano, we are curious to see how we will perform on a completely different circuit. The team is very motivated, especially as we want to give the Indonesian fans a good show. Their passion for motorcycle racing is on another level, so the whole team will work hard.”
