Moto2, Jerez Test – David Alonso looks back on his Moto2 debut

David Alonso took advantage of the Moto2 Test in Jerez to take his first laps in the intermediate class, just a few weeks after his first world championship title in the smallest category of the world championship, Moto3. The Colombian's adaptation seems to have been quick, and the No. 80 enjoyed riding his new machine.

Until five days ago they were rivals and since yesterday the Moto3 world champion, David Alonso and his closest pursuer, Daniel Holgado, began to share the garage of the Aspar team in Moto2. The future teammates had two days in Jerez to get to grips with the machine they will ride next year. The opportunity to talk about their first steps behind the wheel of their new machines.

At the end of the two days of testing, it was Holgado who was the fastest compared to his teammate. The Moto3 world runner-up beat David Alonso by two thousandths of a second after completing a total of 294 laps between them over two days.

“We did a great job. I had a very good feeling during my debut in Moto2, I gradually gained confidence with the bike,
confides the latter. JI'm very happy with all the work we've done, and I'm going home wanting more. This bike is a lot of fun, but I'll have to wait a few months to try it again. I'm sure they will pass quickly because we will start preparing right away. I would like to thank the team for the way they welcomed me and for their hard work; I hope they can rest this winter. »

The two men thus finished a little more than nine tenths from the lead, defended by the Turk, Deniz Öncü. For his part, David Alonso has removed some doubts about his ability to adapt to this new championship.

“It was a very positive test, we enter the winter holidays happy because we now know what Moto2 is, adds Alonso. We have seen that it is not an easy category, we will have to work and be consistent. We also detected that I need to work on my strength during this winter. Yesterday I was happy to be faster on my first day with Moto2 than with Moto3. With this bike you have fun, you have to look for things that you didn't look for in Moto3 and that makes riding more fun. »

The two teammates now have just over two and a half months ahead of them to continue preparing before the next test, which will be held at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal, just before the start of the season in Thailand.
