Injured following contact with Fermin Aldeguer during the last Indonesian Grand Prix, future MotoGP rider Somkiat Chantra is continuing his rehabilitation and will therefore miss the Australian Moto2 Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

The start of the last Indonesian Moto2 Grand Prix was eventful to say the least. As the falls continued during the first lap of the event, Somkiat Chantra deviated from the racing trajectory, showing signs of suffering on the handlebars of his machine.

The Thai pilot had actually just suffered a right leg injury from Fermin Aldeguer. He then returned to the box to retire, before heading towards the medical center. No. 35 then appeared with his right ankle immobilized, despite all hope of being present in Japan. The deadline for his return was, however, postponed until the Australian Grand Prix, with the main person still suffering too much.

This Thursday, Somkiat Chantra once again increased his convalescence time, before returning to the track. To continue to recover from this injury, the future MotoGP rider will not participate in this weekend’s meeting at Phillip Island.

Given that the next meeting of this Moto2 season takes place in Thailand, it is very likely that the latter wants to give himself every chance of not missing his home Grand Prix.

Currently twelfth in the championship, Somkiat Chantra has not finished in the top 10 since the Austrian Grand Prix last August. A happy end to the season would therefore be welcome before bidding farewell to the intermediate class to join the ranks of the LCR team, alongside Johann Zarco.
