“Al-Mountakhab” reveals the reason behind Ounahi’s refusal to move to Al-Sadd and his preference for Panathinaikos

Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi preferred to move to the Greek league through Panathinaikos on loan from Olympique Marseille, preferring to play in the Greek league in order to remain highly competitive in Europe rather than moving to play in the Arabian Gulf, specifically in the Qatari league, where he was a candidate to join his colleague Ghanem Saiss in the ranks of Al Sadd Club.

According to information obtained by “Al-Mountakhab”, the graduate of the Mohammed VI Football Academy rejected all the temptations offered to him by the Qatari Al-Sadd, as he informed the French team’s sports director, Mehdi Benatia, of his unwillingness to move to Qatar at the age of 24.

Ounahi, along with the Moroccan agent who supervised his transfer deal to Panathinaikos of Greece, insisted on staying in Europe, as it currently has a financial component to his football career. The player preferred to respect the sporting aspect in order to continue to shine with the national team, as he is one of the elements that coach Walid Regragui relies on, and which he pays great attention to in order to be part of the generation that will represent Morocco in the 2025 CAN.

Despite the pressures exerted on Ounahi to prefer moving to Qatar from the officials of Olympique de Marseille, the Casablanca native remained confident in himself to choose to play for Panathinaikos after being given the number 8 to represent the Greens of Athens, and he is full of ambition to continue playing at the highest level in the tournament in which he will play the fiery derby against his fellow countryman Ayoub El Kaabi, the Olympiacos player.
