Ounahi arrives in Greece and rejects Qatar’s temptation

Hesport learned from sources close to Moroccan player Azzedine Ounahi that he arrived in Greece moments ago to complete the procedures for signing his contract with Panathinaikos, after leaving the national team camp in Maamoura, this evening, on a private plane.

The same sources confirmed, in statements to “Hesport”, that Ounahi will sign tonight a contract to join Panathinaikos for one season on loan, and that he will return to Morocco tomorrow morning via a private plane to rejoin the “Lions” camp in preparation for the matches against Gabon and Lesotho.

The same sources reported that Olympique de Marseille informed Ounahi, immediately after his arrival in Greece, that Qatari club Al Sadd had raised its offer to 35 million euros in order to obtain his services, in an attempt by the French team to dissuade the Moroccan international from his decision to join Panathinaikos, but he renewed his commitment to his decision, and confirmed that he does not want to leave Europe at the present time.

According to the same sources, Ounahi suffered greatly at Olympique de Marseille after the end of last season and the arrival of the new coach, who sent him clear signals that he was not on his agenda during the current season, in addition to the pressure exerted on him by his compatriot Mehdi Benatia, from his position as sports director, who tried in every way to push him to sign for Al-Sadd of Qatar instead of moving to another European club for financial reasons far from sports interests.

It is worth noting that Ounahi rejected a number of offers during the current summer transfer window, most notably from Qatari club Al-Sadd.
