The launch of the “Excellence Cup” raises the level of competition and opens the door to Moroccan talents

Today, Tuesday, the 2024-2025 Excellence Cup kicks off. It is an official competition organized under the supervision of the National Professional Football League.

This open cup for the clubs of the first and second divisions of the professional championship aims, in particular, to integrate players (under 23 years old) into the first teams, and to identify talented players who can be called upon to strengthen the national Olympic team and the youth team.

This competition will also facilitate the gradual resumption of matches after the break during the summer and winter holidays, and also within the FIFA dates, in addition to increasing the number of matches played per year, thus maintaining the pace of competitiveness during the national championship break periods.

The Excellence Cup, which includes 32 clubs (First Division and Second Division), will be held in two rounds.

During the first round (group stage), the clubs, distributed into eight groups, will play home and away matches, with each group including four teams according to the distribution consistent with the ranking of the previous sports season, with the relegated second division teams being replaced by newly promoted teams.

The teams that finish first and second in each group will qualify for the second round (final round), and will play the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals, home and away, after which the ranking and final matches will be held.

Regarding the ages of the players, clubs must register at least ten players under 23 years old on the match sheet, with the participation of at least six players under 23 years old being mandatory during the match.

If a player under the age of 23 is suspended during a match, the quota for players under the age of 23 must respect the same principle by applying the number of players sent off.

This competition will be mainly scheduled during the professional league breaks.

Clubs will have to use the same technical staff as adults, unless the National Professional Football League decides otherwise and at its discretion under the circumstances.
