“Problematic”, Christine Kelly has a very clear opinion …

Monday, September 2, 2024, Christine Kelly was invited to the set of TV Mag’s Buzz TV. Asked about ARCOM’s decision not to renew C8’s frequency, the journalist revealed what she really thought about it.

Christine Kelly, who has hosted Face à l’info on CNews since 2019, has worked for the Canal+ group since 2018. For a year, the woman who was a member of the CSA between 2009 and 2015 was a columnist on Touche pas à mon poste before joining the Balance ton post team. She was very touched to learn that ARCOM had decided to do not renew the C8 frequency.

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, on X (ex-Twitter), the journalist wrote: “Support for freedom of expression. Support for the values of France. Support for C8, the first TNT channel. Support for Cyril Hanouna and the teams. In the comments section, while some were delighted with the channel’s shutdown, one user wrote: “Whether we like C8 and its programming or not, freedom of expression is a fundamental value specific to civilized societies”.

Christine Kelly: “We need competition and freedom of choice for the viewer”

On Monday, September 2, 2024, on the set of TV Mag’s Buzz TV, the 55-year-old journalist recalled that ARCOM had a habit of removing channels. “But channels that are not watched”she said before deploring: “We need competition and freedom of choice for the viewer. If we prevent people from choosing between Yann Barthès and Cyril Hanouna, and we impose, indirectly, a programme, it becomes problematic.

Referring to an unprecedented situation, Christine Kelly recalled that C8 was the first DTT channel, “which took twenty years to build itself up to grow and find its audience”Finally, she deplored the fact that not enough is being said about the 300 employees of the chain, who will find themselves without jobs in a few months. “Who will worry about it? (…) Cyril Hanouna will bounce back, but what about the 300 employees? Nobody asks the question”she said.

Yann Barthès, is he happy about the closure of C8?

Sunday September 1, 2024, in an interview with La Tribune,

Yann Barthes
host of Quotidien, had mentioned the end of C8. “I will never be happy about the closure of a channel. A channel is not just one presenter, but hundreds of people. My thoughts go out to all the employees of C8 and the Canal+ group, to which I belonged. It hurts my hearthe assured.

While some see this decision by ARCOM as an attack on freedom of expression, the presenter added:
“I simply want to say that certain remarks that were made and which were aimed at us – whether physical threats or insults – are less about freedom of speech than about harassment and violence. I don’t want to say more so as not to put a coin back in the machine. I don’t particularly want to talk about Cyril Hanouna”.
