Corriere dello Sport interviewed Amir Richardson’s father, Michael Sugar Richardson (former basketball star), who talked about his son’s early adventure in Florence and his past as a basketball player. Michael played in Italy and holds Virtus Bologna in his heart. Here is some of what he said in the interview:
** In Florence, great things were said about Prince Richardson, who made a convincing debut in the Italian championship.
_ “I am very happy. We talk a lot about this, he was happy with the idea of making his debut in Italian football. And as you know, he really wants to return to Bologna, he has a great talent.”
** Amir grew into a big boy, 195 centimeters tall, with a physique fit for basketball. Instead, he chose football. Why?
_ “He was born when I was playing in Antibes, he discovered football as a child and never stopped playing. He played everywhere, in the squares, in the suburban fields. He started to attract attention very early. I remember one day in Le Figaro how I wrote an article about Amir, and it said that his father was a basketball champion and he would become a football champion.”
**What kind of player is your son?
_ “It’s exciting to watch him play. He’s a great passer, he knows how to read the game with the ball and anticipate the opponent’s maneuver. He doesn’t lack tactics and techniques, and he looks elegant to look at.”
**Will you be a Fiorentina fan now?
_ “It’s clear. Virtus will always be my favourite team, but I’ll support Fiorentina for now. My heart goes out to my son, who is making his own way.”
