Former socialist prime minister Bernard Cazeneuve and the president of the Republicans (LR) party in Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand, will be received on Monday 2 September by Emmanuel Macron, who is still looking for a head of government, almost two months after legislative elections which led to a National Assembly without a majority.
The announcement of these meetings reflects an acceleration of the consultations led by Emmanuel Macron, which are entering their final phase after 55 days of political crisis. The names of the former ministers, one from the left and the other from the right, are regularly cited to take the head of a government in this very complex political configuration.
Bernard Cazeneuve will open the ball at 8:45 a.m. The head of state will then meet with his predecessors François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy. Xavier Bertrand, a champion of the social right, also a former minister, is expected at the Elysée in the afternoon.
According to his entourage, the head of state should allow the school year to start on Monday, and an appointment could be made on Tuesday.
