September challenges include Champions League debut

Well, the first month didn’t go too badly! Four games and four victories. The aim is to keep the wins flowing thick and fast, but there are some tough challenges for Hansi Flick and his team just around the corner, with just one of the five fixtures in September being played at home.

Girona v Barça: Top quality derby

September gets off to a slow start, with no games at all until September 15 due to the international break. But La Liga comes back with a bang with a trip up the road to face Champions League debutants Girona at 4.15pm CEST. Barça go to Montilivi on a high, and will be looking to avenge last season when they were soundly beaten by their fellow Catalans both at home and away.

Monaco v Barça: Euro debut

The following Tuesday 19 at 9pm CEST, Barça are off to the Stade Lluis II to open their Champions League bid against the same side they recently played in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Monaco stunned the Catalans that day 3-0, but hopefully the competitive meeting will produce a very different outcome.

Villarreal v Barça: Third away trip of the week

Three days later and it’s another road trip, this time to the Estadio de la Ceràmica, where the Yellow Submarine have a number of new faces ready to help them back into Europe after missing out last term. The two games with Villarreal last season produced an amazing 15 goals in total, with the away side victorious each time. Will there be more fireworks here?

Barça v Getafe: Only game at Montjuïc

The only game at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys this month is the midweek affair against the side from Madrid. Barça were comfortable 4-0 winners last time out, and a repeat performance would do very nicely indeed.

Osasuna v Barça: End to busy fortnight

A restless two weeks end with a visit to Pamplona, who are operating under a new manager this season, namely Vicente Moreno following the departure of Jagoba Arrasate. Osasuna away is typically a tough fixture for the Catalans, although last season they came back from Navarra with all three points.
