Mary Moraa ‘proud of herself’ after reclaiming Diamond League Trophy

The reigning world champion has expressed satisfaction after reclaiming her Diamond League Trophy in Brussels.

Reigning world 800m champion Mary Moraa has had the last laugh, thanks to her relentless effort that saw her claim the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.

Moraa oozed class in the women’s 800m, crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 1:56.56 to win the race. Great Britain’s Georgia Bell finished second in a time of 1:57.50 with Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin completing the podium in 1:58.94.


Fred Kerley has supported Letsile Tebogo in pleading with World Athletics to bring back an athletics competition that was done away with in 2020.

The Kenyan 800m sensation was over the moon after reclaiming her Diamond League Meeting final trophy that she claimed in 2022 in Zurich. During last year’s final at the Prefontaine Classic, Moraa finished fourth with Athing Mu winning the title.

“I’m so happy to get the trophy back after I lost it last year. It was a hard competition, so I’m proud of myself for getting the Diamond back,” an emotional Moraa said in a post-race interview.

Moraa started her season campaign with a series of Athletics Kenya weekend meets before proceeding to the African Games where she claimed the gold medal in the women’s 400m. She then won the Kip Keino Classic before extending her winning streak to the Diamond League Meeting in Doha.

The Commonwealth Games champion finished second in the 400m at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix before finishing second behind Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson in the women’s 800m at the Prefontaine Classic.

At the Kenyan Olympic trials, Moraa finished second before claiming a bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. The race was won by Hodgkinson with Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma finishing second.

After the Olympics, Moraa has been nothing short of impressive, winning the race at the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne before finishing third in the 1000m in Silesia. The 24-year-old then proceeded to break the 600m world best at the ISTAF 2024 in Berlin.


Kisii Express was in a class of her own as she executed a great strategy to reclaim the Diamond League Trophy in Brussels on Friday.

Moraa won the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich before ending her season with the Diamond League trophy at the meeting final in Brussels.
