Tension rises between Pyongyang and Seoul, the South Korean army on alert

(VOVWORLD) – The Republic of Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) declared itself “fully prepared” on Monday after the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) ordered troops to be ready to open fire.

“Our military is closely monitoring the situation and stands fully ready to respond to provocations from the North,” Lee Seong-joon, spokesman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a press briefing.

Also this Monday, before the Security and Public Administration Committee of the South Korean National Assembly, Kim Kyung Il, mayor of Paju, a border town in Gyeonggi province, stressed that tensions have recently increased. intensified in this area. Local residents are considering leaving their place of residence, fearing a war situation. The Gyeonggi provincial government is also considering a plan to establish “border risk zones” such as Goyang, Gimpo, Yeoncheon, Pocheon, and Paju.

This Monday morning, Pyongyang also destroyed part of the roads connecting the two Koreas. A few days earlier, Pyongyang announced its intention to cut roads and railways, once symbols of inter-Korean cooperation.

The DPRK previously raised the alert level against Seoul, accusing South Korean drones of repeatedly violating its airspace. She ordered eight artillery brigades near the border to prepare to open fire and strengthen protection of Pyongyang.
