After a chilly weekend we could see a rise in temperatures across the UK and Ireland this week, but the wet weather is expected to stay.
Northern Ireland has had the coldest night of autumn so far with temperatures dropping to -2C at Katesbridge in Co. Down on Friday.
Last week temperatures lingered in the single digits but the Met Office is forecasting much milder conditions over the coming days.
The weather will remain unsettled with a mainly dry start on Monday, followed by a period of cloud and rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, by mid week things are expected to turn milder with forecasters predicting milder temperatures with highs 16C in places.
While it is predicted to be “generally drier and brighter” on Thursday, there will be a few showers at times.
Meteorologist Tom Morgan said it will be “much milder compared to now” for everyone.
“Some places will be 10C warmer because today is a very chilly day for early October, so the main theme for this week that it’s turning much milder for all,” he said.
He added that the country would not be seeing an Indian summer this week as the better weather will be replaced by wet and windy conditions by next weekend.
He said next weekend is “looking pretty unsettled”, with the North West including Scotland and Northern Ireland being wet and windy.
He added: “So it will be pretty autumnal with temperatures that might be much higher than this weekend, so into mid-teen temperatures.”
