A little muggy to start the week but cooler air moving in soon

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – While temperatures will stay warm Monday afternoon, the next cold front is on the way to bring back a stronger taste of fall!

Patchy fog will be present for many heading out the door, so make sure to exercise caution on the roadways and give yourself ample time to reach your destination!

While cooler temperatures are on the way, it’s expected to stay on the hot and humid side for Monday. Highs should reach the upper 80’s in many locations and may even break into the 90’s which will be near record highs for the day in some areas. Sunshine should replace any morning cloud cover or fog for the rest of the day while rain chances remain slim to none.

First Alert Forecast(KPLC)

The cold front itself will begin slowly moving through late Monday and complete the process by Tuesday night. A stray sprinkle or two has the chance to pop up, but overall rain chances will stay low.

While rain is generally not expected along the front, noticeably cooler temperatures will filter in by Wednesday with breezy northerly winds. Even during the day we’ll get a taste of fall with highs likely to remain in the 70’s through Thursday. At night is when we’ll really notice the cooler weather, with 40’s likely Thursday morning north of I-10 and temps near 50 along it. Gumbo will likely be needed by then!

First Alert Forecast(KPLC)

The downside to the dry weather remains the lack of rain. Rain continues to be absent from the 10-day forecast, so expansion or worsening of the moderate drought we’re in is certainly possible over the next week. This also means more burn bans may pop-up, so do be careful with any outdoor plans you have and make sure to check on local advisories.

First Alert Forecast(KPLC)

The tropics have calmed down over the past couple days. The only area currently being watched for development is a wave moving west in the tropical Atlantic. Some development may be possible later this week once it gets closer to the Leeward Islands. However, it is several thousand miles away from SWLA meaning there is no cause for concern. But we’ll watch what comes of it. The rest of the basin is quiet with no development expected within the next week.
