Algerian Hamza Bendelladj, known as the “Smiling Hacker,” aroused widespread interest in Arab circles after his release in the United States of America, where he served his sentence. With his return to Algeria, questions began about his future, especially after his track record of hacking about 250 global banks.
Ben Dellaj shared with his followers on his Instagram account a picture of himself on his way to his homeland, commenting with the phrase, “Algeria, my love.” The Algerian rapper Didine, who is close to him, also published a photo of them together, accompanied by a comment expressing his happiness at Ben Dellaj’s exit, saying: “Praise be to God, Hamza Ben Dellaj has left.”
Ben Dellaj’s arrest dates back to 2013, when he was arrested in Thailand in cooperation with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he was charged with cybercrimes. News of his return became the talk of social media platforms in Algeria, where some see him as a popular hero, due to his success in confronting the global financial system.
Ben Dallaj was known by his nickname, “The Smiling Hacker,” and became a legend to some thanks to the hacking operations he carried out, which included stealing bank accounts around the world and transferring money to Palestine and some charities in Africa.
He was considered one of the 10 most dangerous hackers in the world, after he developed a computer virus that targeted the systems of many banks between 2010 and 2012, stealing customers’ money and selling the stolen information for huge sums of money.
