How was Gerónimo Rulli’s game against Venezuela?

Gerónimo Rulli was chosen to replace Dibu Martínez in the arch of the Argentina team against Venezuela, for the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Olympique de footballer had the responsibility of covering Aston Villa’s ‘1’, suspended for this FIFA Date for “offensive behavior” against Chile and Colombia in September, and completed a great performance.

La Vinotinto tried little in the first half, but the former Estudiantes reacted with confidence against the distant shots of Tomás Rincón, in the first minutes, and José Martínez. Although both shots went to the middle, the captain’s shot had a lot of power, so Rulli kept the ball in two halves, taking advantage of the fact that it did not hit due to the state of the playing field.

But his best intervention of the initial stage took place at the end, when Salomón Rondón defined heads-up: The ball hit the legs of the 32-year-old from La Plata and he avoided the goalalthough he needed a great clearance from Nicolás Otamendi in the six-yard box to complete the response.

With a grass that complicated the game, Rulli grew again in the second half, becoming the protagonist of the game in the first minutes. Barely at the beginning of the period he saved his goal again, but at 47 minutes he left one of the plays of the afternoon to the fly and take the pique header to the floor of Yangel Herrera.

Unfortunately for the Albiceleste, Rondón took revenge and, after 65 minutes, declared the final 1-1. The former River took advantage of a good overflow and center from Yeferson Soteldo, won between Germán Pezzella and Otamendi and He scored an unstoppable header for number 12.

In his fifth match with the Argentine Senior National Team (he adds another seven in the Olympic Games), Rulli rose to the occasion and, although he could not prevent Rondón’s goal, he rounded off a great game.
