Center back Gustav Henriksson was one of the pitch’s giants when Elfsborg sensationally defeated Roma 1-0.
– It feels absolutely fantastic. It’s really wonderful, he says.
– We are doing very well. We’ll come out and give them a real fucking fight.
When did you feel like you could actually win?
– I felt it quite quickly. The first 20 minutes maybe. Then we had quite a few situations. We let them play but had good control over them.
Were you surprised by that?
– Both me and no. We knew it was a good team, sure, but it’s not like gods. We knew they are a better team than us, but here in Borås’ arena where it is five degrees cold, we knew we had a chance. We did great.
In the Disney+ broadcast, Oscar Hiljemark, Elfsborg’s manager, said that Gustav Henriksson appeared like a “mix” of central back legends Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini against Roma.
– Haha, those were kind words, you can really say that. Maybe he exaggerated a little, replies Henriksson and breaks into another laugh.
– But of course it’s nice to hear.
What do you think about your contribution?
– It was definitely a good effort, but I want to strengthen the team’s effort. You can’t go for a specific player, but we are eleven men plus substitutes who really fight.
How do you rate this experience in your career?
– It’s in first place. It was a good evening.
