Younger Mbappé Brother Injures Himself, Missing Chance to Face Kylian in Champions League

The draw for the Champions League has set up a clash between Real Madrid and , who will compete this Wednesday. However, it won’t be this time that the Mbappé brothers will face each other. That’s because Ethan, the midfielder for the French side, suffered an injury in the last match, ruling him out for several weeks and preventing him from going up against his older brother, Kylian.

Ethan Mbappé, 17, joined Lille during the last transfer window, coming from Saint-Germain, while his older brother, Kylian Mbappé, left the French club on a free transfer to Real Madrid. They had previously played together at PSG but would have faced each other for the first time.

However, a muscle injury sustained during Lille’s 3-0 victory over last Saturday dashed Ethan’s hopes of stepping onto the field against Kylian. It’s worth noting that the Real Madrid forward is also doubtful for the match due to an injury, although he has been included in the squad.

“I got injured during the match and I will be out for several weeks. It’s a tough moment for me as it’s the first time this has happened since I started playing football. My dream of meeting my brother in the Champions League is fading, but it’s not gone,” Ethan Mbappé wrote on Instagram.

Lille and Real Madrid will face off this Wednesday at 16:00 (Brasilia time) at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, in the second round of the Champions League. The French club lost in their debut against Sporting, while the Merengues defeated Stuttgart.
