Real Madrid starlet Endrick immediately creates club history in the Champions League – breaking 29-year record

Endrick broke Raul’s 29-year record to become Real Madrid’s youngest player to start a Champions League tie.

The Brazilian teenager was named in Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up away at in their shock 1-0 defeat on Wednesday night at the age of 18 years and 73 days.

In doing so, the forward broke the previous record, which was held by club legend Raul.

The iconic Spanish striker was 18 years and 77 days old when he started against Ajax in September 1995.

Big things are expected of Endrick, who finally linked up with Real in the summer after they triggered his £51million release clause at Brazilian club Palmeiras in December 2022.

Prior to Endrick’s start against Lille, he had come off the bench in eight previous games, with Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo preferred ahead up top.

But he has impressed from his cameos, grabbing two goals and one assist.

He marked his Champions League debut with a goal in the opening round of fixtures in the revamped tournament.

Just minutes after coming on against Stuttgart at the Bernabeu a fortnight ago, he found the back of the net with a low fizzing strike to seal a 3-1 victory.

That goal saw him create Real history by becoming the youngest player to score in any international competition.

Endrick also scored on his LaLiga debut against Real Valladolid during his brief four-minute appearance.

And his displays convinced Ancelotti he was worthy of a first start in all competitions in .

It saw Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo drop to the bench, with Endrick leading the line alongside Vinicius Jr.

Ancelotti recently pleaded for patience from the youngster in his bid to be given more game time.

He said: “On the one hand, yes, I may be being unfair, because he is training well; he is someone with a lot of quality,

“But in front of him are Vinicius, Rodrygo, Mbappe… it is necessary, for him to be a little patient.”

The Italian is a huge admirer of Endrick’s talents having waxed lyrical over him following his goal against Stuttgart.

The former Chelsea manager remarked: “He is able to do things that no-one can think of.

“He has the gift that strikers dreams of, the gift of being very effective, decisive.

“You can see that he has something special, something I have never seen. And he has such a strong and very fast shooting.”

But sadly for Endrick, he failed to make his mark against Lille, with Los Blancos left stunned by their Ligue 1 opponents.
