Heavy death toll expected in Guelmim region.. The governor waited until morning to inspect the affected areas and the head of the dialect was absent – Lakome2

The toll from the floods and torrents in the southeast appears to be continuing to rise, amid the absence of any official figures or communication from the authorities of the affected regions.

In an initial, unofficial tally, attributed to the head of the Tamanart community in Tata province, several bodies were recovered, while many people are still missing, as a result of the strong floods that hit the province on Saturday night, which caused the collapse of many homes, the destruction of bridges, and the closure of roads.

Omar Bahoush, mayor of Tamanart, said in a statement to Anadolu Agency: “Tata province and its municipality of Tamanart witnessed floods last night due to heavy rains that submerged a number of areas, resulting in a provisional toll of at least two deaths and 12 missing persons.”

“These floods caused damage to property and the collapse of about 10 houses in Tamanart,” Bahoush added.

He added: “The floods also caused roads to be cut off and telephone lines to be cut off, making it difficult to estimate the real number of missing people.”

The death toll from these torrents and floods is expected to be high in the villages of Okrda, Smouken and Imtdi, as many houses built in the valley beds collapsed, while news is circulating about a large number of drowned people whose bodies were recovered and other numbers of missing people, while many families are still trapped in some of the areas affected by the torrential floods.

Videos on social media showed the devastating effects of the floods, which killed dozens of livestock, swept away palm tree fields, destroyed many homes, and flooded many schools.

Other videos showed the collapse of several bridges in the area, and the sweeping away of already dilapidated roads in a region suffering from fragility and marginalization.

The torrential floods also damaged the infrastructure, destroying drinking water networks, and cutting off communication with many residents who are still trapped in some of the affected areas.

In contrast, the local authorities are still silent, and the governor of the region, Najem Bahi, waited until Sunday morning to make a field visit to some of the affected areas. As for the president of the region, Mubarak Bouaida, who lives in the city of Rabat, she did not appear at all.
