“I came here to win” – Dani Olmo discusses Barcelona move

Dani Olmo is living the dream. It took him a decade away in Croatia and Germany but the one-time The Farmhouse star is finally back home at Barcelona and had an amazing debut, scoring the winning goal in Barça’s win over Rayo Vallecano in midweek.

The midfielder had to wait a while to play after the club struggled to register his contract, but once the green light came Olmo was ready to go and had a fantastic 45-minute cameo. Now he hopes to continue adding more wins, goals and assists to his name as a Barça player, and is ready to repay the club’s faith after they spent quite a bit to bring him back home.

Olmo spoke to Sports World about his first few weeks as a Blaugrana senior player, how quickly he said yes to Barça once the offer was made, and what he hopes to bring to the team with his experience playing in different leagues.

“The signing happened very fast, very fast. In four or five days I was already here in Barcelona. I’m very happy it happened that way. When Barça came knocking at the door, it was clear to me. I had other options, but my dream was to come home.

“The goal of the club and the coach, their vision, is the same as mine: winning. I came here to win, I want to win titles with this shirt and I believe in this group and this club, absolutely. We have the players to do it.

“I had that confidence from the first day we spoke. I also heard the idea Flick had in his mind for how to fit me in the team and he convinced me. That’s when everything clicked for me. It’s true there were rumors of me coming back before, in other windows in the past, but I was never so clear about it as I was this summer.

“I can bring more verticality to the team. I’m a player who is always trying to look forward, to make the final pass, to combine with other players or to shoot from distance. So in that sense, maybe instead of just keeping my position and staying there calmly, which I’m also able to do, I am a more attack-minded player who wants to make things happen further forward.”
