Street 20. Marrakech

Rue20 learned that the floods that hit the districts and communities of Tata city caused huge material losses.

Our sources added that the floods swept away several houses adjacent to some valleys, especially in the mountainous village of “Smouken Oukrda”, where a number of people lost their homes or part of them due to the floods of the valleys that surprised the residents with force.

In addition, a number of residents of the area circulated video clips showing their area being exposed to torrential floods, while there is still talk of the disappearance of citizens, believed to be among those missing in the floods.

Citizens of this region are calling for urgent intervention by army and Royal Gendarmerie helicopters to save the lives of citizens from the torrential floods that are still continuing for several hours.

The General Directorate of Meteorology reported that very heavy rainfall, locally thunderstorms, (from 80 to 150 mm) with very strong gusts of wind, is expected starting from Friday at 4:00 PM until next Sunday at 11:00 PM.

The Directorate explained, in a red alert warning bulletin, that this rainfall concerns the provinces of Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, and Tata; while rainfall of orange alert level will, at the same time, concern the provinces of Figuig, Taroudant, Midelt, Azilal, and Al Haouz (30 mm to 60 mm).
