Mobile reaches record high for second straight day

Mobile has recorded a record high temperature for the second day in a row.

The National Weather Service climate report for Tuesday shows a high temperature of 98 degrees at the Mobile Regional Airport. That broke the old record of 97 degrees set in 1944.

Mobile also had a record high on Monday, hitting 99 degrees and breaking the record of 98 degrees that had stood since 1964.

It was very hot across south Alabama on Tuesday. The Dothan Airport reported a high temperature of 101 degrees. That wasn’t enough to break the standing record for Sept. 3, which is 105 degrees.

Other Alabama cities were warm, but not way above average like they were last week.

Some other temperatures from Tuesday:

* Birmingham: 88 degrees (record 102 degrees in 1925)

* Huntsville: 89 degrees (record 103 degrees in 1925)

* Montgomery: 92 degrees (record 99 degrees in 1925)

* Muscle Shoals: 91 degrees (record 103 degrees in 1913)

* Tuscaloosa: 92 degrees (record 102 degrees in 1951)

More of Alabama will get some relief from those way-above-average temperatures on Wednesday.

High tomorrow are expected to still be warm, but many areas will not make it to 90 degrees and instead stay in the mid- to upper 80s. That incudes today’s hot spots in south Alabama (See the forecast for Wednesday at the top of this post).

Like the trend of cooler temperatures? Then just wait until Thursday.

Rain and clouds are expected in parts of Alabama on Thursday, which will be partly to blame for the lower temperatures. But those cooler temperatures are expected to hang around into Friday as well:
