Real Madrid have several players in their squad who are favourites for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Bellingham, Carvajal, Kroos, Rüdiger, Valverde, Vinicius and Mbappé are the 7 Madrilenians nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or and some of them are considered potential winners, notably Vinicius, Bellingham and Carvajal.

What if Real Madrid won gold, silver and bronze, 3 months after the Paris Olympic Games, on Monday, October 28, 2024 in this same city? Nothing is impossible with this club.

But a Spaniard from Manchester City is likely to come and play spoilsport in the person of Rodrigo who had a great season at Manchester City, crowned with a new Premier League title and having also had a very good Euro won with the Roja (voted best player of the tournament).

If Real Madrid achieves the feat of having three players from the same club on the podium of a Ballon d’Or, it will be only the third time in the history of the 67 editions that this has happened.

Only 2 precedents in history

In 2010, FC Barcelona dominated the podium of the Ballon d’Or with Messi, Iniesta and Xavi… Further back in time, in 1988, AC Milan placed Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard on the three highest steps of the Ballon d’Or. Real Madrid is both so close and so far from achieving this treble that would be so symbolic.

In any case, Vinicius is the number one favourite thanks to his excellent season at Real Madrid with 24 goals and 9 assists in all competitions, including a goal in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

Jude Bellingham also has his chances with good statistics (23 goals and 13 assists in all competitions) but he disappeared from the radar a little in the second half of the season and had a rather average Euro with England which could have allowed him to score more points in the race for the Ballon d’Or despite the final lost against Spain of a certain Carvajal (2-1).

The latter had an extraordinary season with Real, scoring a goal in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, and also won the Euro with Spain, with whom he was just as good as he was at Real Madrid. That’s saying something…

The big winner will be announced on October 28th and if it is a Real Madrid player who wins, he will be the ninth player in the history of the Casa Blanca to win this individual award and the 13th title for the Merengues: Cristiano Ronaldo (4 times), Di Stéfano (2 times), Kopa, Figo, Ronaldo Nazário, Cannavaro, Modric and Benzema (all once)… It should be noted that Real Madrid experienced a Ballon d’Or drought between 1959 and 2000 but since then, it has been a great harvest.
