Hunter x Hunter return: New chapters confirmed after hiatus

Fans of the iconic manga series Hunter x Hunter can rejoice as new chapters are set to release soon.

On September 3, 2024, Shueisha announced that the Hunter x Hunter return is official, confirming that new chapters will be released after a nearly 2-year hiatus.

The announcement was paired with a teaser trailer featuring the Phantom Troupe, showcasing the series’ iconic group of powerful Nen users.

Initially, it was believed that the upcoming volume 38 would only include previously serialized chapters, but we now know that brand-new content is on the way.

What is Hunter x Hunter?

Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese manga series created by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on March 3, 1998.

Togashi’s creation follows the journey of Gon Freecss, a young boy who embarks on a quest to become a Hunter and find his father, Ging.

Over the years, Hunter x Hunter has become a staple in manga and anime, amassing a massive fanbase. The series’ unique combination of adventure, mystery, and emotional depth has cemented its place as one of history’s most influential shonen titles.

Despite its success, the series has been plagued by frequent hiatuses due to Togashi’s ongoing health issues, leaving fans in suspense for extended periods.

When is Hunter x Hunter returning?

Shueisha has officially announced that new chapters will be released starting October 7, 2024.

The news of new chapters coincides with the release of volume 38 on September 4, 2024, which compiled previously serialized chapters into a single volume for the first time.

Shueisha confirmed that Hunter x Hunter will not return with a weekly release schedule.

Instead, the series will follow a more flexible timeline, differing from its previous runs. During the last return from hiatus, chapters 391 to 400 were released before the series paused again.

This time, the exact number of new chapters has not been revealed, but Togashi has shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s been working on the Hunter x Hunter manga since May 1, 2024.

Volume 38, which consists of chapters 391 to 400, continues the intense Succession Contest arc. This perilous storyline centers around the fourteen princes of the Kakin Empire, who are forced into a deadly battle for the throne as their ship, the Black Whale, sets sail for the mysterious Dark Continent.

Kurapika, hired as a bodyguard by the eighth Queen, Oito Hui Guo Rou, finds himself entangled in this high-stakes game while pursuing his mission to confront the last owner of his clan’s eyes, Prince Tserriednich.
