Like every day, the 8pm news on France 2 deciphers a Paralympic sport. Spotlight on wheelchair tennis which presents little difference with the Olympic version except that the player can let the ball bounce twice…

Same size and net height as for the Olympic tennis event: “It’s impressive because it’s hard to play tennis and use your racket and on top of that you have a wheelchair”explains a young spectator who has come to watch a wheelchair tennis match. The only difference is the number of bounces allowed. In the Paralympic version, two bounces are allowed. The second can also take place off the court.

Another notable difference: the players are constantly on the move and doing loops. For French champion Ksenia Chasteau: “It looks like a kind of figure eight (..) The goal is to always have this movement so as not to stop and restart and lose too much energy”. This evening, para tennis player Stéphane Houdet has qualified for the semi-final in doubles…
