Portugal and Croatia have played numerous games during Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric’s era. This might be one of the last times we see them face off, which makes us slightly sad. But hey, let’s enjoy their game while we still can. Check out our preview for this clash.

Before Betting on Portugal vs. Croatia

Once again, the Portuguese team suffered a major failure in one international competition. They won the 2016 EURO but couldn’t do anything worth mentioning at the following continental championships or World Cups. France stood in their way back this summer, eliminating Selecao in the quarterfinals.

Portugal’s recent matches weren’t that interesting in terms of scoring. The previous four saw just one side netting, and Selecao managed to keep three clean sheets. Portugal’s offensive potential hasn’t shown up in the big competition, and that’s probably because of Ronaldo’s ego, with the veteran putting too much spotlight on himself.

Croatia’s impressive run on the big stage ended at the EURO. They couldn’t win in either of three events, posting a loss to Spain, 0-3, and two ties against Albania, 2-2, and Italy, 1-1. It seems that this nation’s golden era is over, even though Modric still plays.

To be honest, the team has many excellent players, some of them world-class, but overall, they don’t have Luka’s successor, and they also don’t have a player like Ivan Rakitic. Legendary No.4 was the team’s glue and the perfect partner for Modric in the midfield.

Portugal vs. Croatia Head to Head

Just before the EURO, we saw these two teams playing a friendly international in which Croatia beat Portugal on the road, 1-2. In the 2020 Nations League, Portugal beat Croatia in both events, 4-1 at home and 2-3 in Zagreb.

The hosts seem to have a better team right now, and apart from all this have a much bigger motive than Croatia due to the recent defeat against this rival. We pick Selecao to triumph here.
