Manchester City are on the hunt to make even more history and win a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

Having become the first side to win four league trophies in a row last season, City have started their latest campaign on a strong note.

Specifically, Pep Guardiola has seen his team win all three of their league fixtures, beating Chelsea, Ipswich Town and West Ham United.

Despite still being in the early stages of the campaign, one particular player in City’s squad has now had a claim made about him and what could happen to him by the end of the season.

Paul Merson makes Erling Haaland claim

In a recent column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson had this to say about Erling Haaland ahead of City’s Premier League match against Brentford.

He said: “Erling Haaland is a machine, he’s just unbelievable isn’t he? I’d even say he’s won the Golden Boot already.

“I know it sounds like madness, but it’s absolutely incredible stuff from him and City are top of the league thanks to him.”

Haaland is on course to win another Golden Boot

Merson isn’t the first pundit to make a claim about the City star’s goalscoring efforts this season, as Darren Bent claimed that Haaland could break his own goal record in the league this term.

In his first season at City, the 24-year-old won the Golden Boot by scoring 36 goals in 35 Premier League games.

The Norwegian then followed that up by bagging 27 goals in 31 league matches, resulting in him winning another Golden Boot.

Despite just three league games being played in this latest campaign, Haaland has managed to score seven goals, which is more than most clubs in the division have managed to rack up.

Taking that into account, it’s easy to see why Merson reckons this season’s Golden Boot award already has the striker’s name on it.
