From storm to sunshine: Lower Saxony and Bremen are experiencing a weather rollercoaster. Weather experts are now predicting the autumn hammer.

Hanover/Bremen – This will certainly make people in northern Germany happy: after the storm, which reached wind force 10 in Lower Saxony, the weather is calming down. So much so that disproportionate prospects are expected in the north. The meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD) confirm an enormous surge of heat in the coming days.

Weather in Lower Saxony: Meteorologists predict an enormous surge in heat

It’s a real weather rollercoaster in the north, as temperatures of up to 20 degrees are expected. This is due to a high pressure area, reports the DWD. It moves from northern Germany towards the Baltics and, according to experts, leads to a southeasterly flow that transports milder and relatively dry air to Lower Saxony and Bremen.

After the storm comes the warmth: Northern Germany is expecting an enormous surge in heat. Up to 20 degrees are forecast, wetter.net writes of 19 degrees. © wetter.net/Jochen Tack/Imago

In plain language this means: It will be warm again in Lower Saxony in mid-October. Wednesday will have varying degrees of sunshine and clouds, but it will remain dry. Mild temperatures of up to 14 degrees can be expected along the Elbe, while the Emsland can expect very mild temperatures of up to 19 degrees. Thursday goes one better: The weather in Lower Saxony is expected to remain mostly clear, although it may be cloudier in the west and occasional rain is possible there from the afternoon onwards. The temperatures are very mild and lie between 16 and 20 degrees.

And on Friday there will also be a mix of sun and thick clouds. Occasionally it may rain. The maximum temperatures are between 16 and a very mild 19 degrees.

Weather in the north should stay warm for now

And that’s how it should stay for now. According to the DWD’s trend forecast, which summarizes several forecasts, the maximum temperatures on the weekend in and around Bremen can be up to 18 degrees. It remains mild at the start of the new week. However, rain showers are always to be expected.

Autumn warmth is unusual: October in the north is already well above the average temperature

The temperatures are well above the long-term average for this time of year. While the average temperature in October is usually 9 degrees, values of up to 1 to 2 degrees higher are expected this October, according to wetter.com. Last year October was 2.9 degrees too warm.

Although individual weather events cannot be directly attributed to climate change, the long-term trend towards warmer autumn months is a frequently cited indicator of climate change. According to various meteorologists, the accumulation of warmer than average October months in recent years indicates a general warming.
