Alabama’s forecast this week brings warm days and cool nights

Thursday morning will begin in the 50s feeling very similar to Wednesday morning.Thursday afternoon will end up in the low 80s under full sunshine. This is just above average for this time of year.You can look forward to more of the same through the weekend: highs in the lower 80s, lows in the 50s (cold spots in the 40s), and no rain whatsoever in North and Central Alabama. The coolest morning of the workweek will come on Friday. Some spots may dip into the upper 40s around sunrise. For our high school football games, the weather will be perfect! The sky is mainly clear with temperatures falling through the 60s into the 50s by the time games wrap up. Temperatures will generally be near 50 degrees, but like on Friday morning, some of the typically cooler locations may dip as low as the upper 40s.The afternoon will feature lots of sunshine and warm temperatures in the 80s. There is no chance of rain through the weekend, and we do not see any threat of rain whatsoever through the first part of next week. Seven day rainfall ending Tuesday, October 15 is a big zero for almost all of Alabama. STRONG OCTOBER COLD FRONTWhile we have been watching the Gulf of Mexico intently, the jet stream has positioned itself to send some Arctic air southward across North America soon.This “Arctic” air will not have the same impact as it would in November, December, or January, but it will bring our first shot of really chilly weather next week. Temperatures will drop to the 60s for highs and the 30s and 40s for overnight lows. Some light, patchy frost could appear in the coldest spots by next Wednesday and Thursday mornings (October 16-17).Is it unusual? Not at all. A chill like this would be right in line with normal expecations for mid-October in Alabama. Our usual first frost of the season occurs around or after October 25 for most of North and Central Alabama.BEACH FORECASTHurricane Milton will send some large swells and dangerous rip currents to the Alabama Gulf Coast this week.
