Actress Elham Shaheen talked about the backstage of the ban on the screening of the film “The Atheist”, which sparked controversy during the past period after producer Ahmed El Sobky revealed that it had been approved by the censorship of artistic works.
Shaheen was a guest on the program “My Guest With” presented by the media figure Moataz El Demerdash and broadcast on the “Al Sharq” channel. During her talk, Elham Shaheen touched on several topics, including her relationship with the summer and the evil coast, her opinion on “social media”, her controversial statements during the past period, including organ donation, her opinion on banning the screening of the movie “The Atheist”, and her artistic projects during the upcoming period, in addition to backstage and details related to her personal life that she revealed for the first time.
Regarding her opinion on the ban on the screening of the movie “The Atheist,” she said: “They made a lot of publicity for it. When they say a movie has been stopped or banned, maybe there wasn’t enough publicity and maybe not all people have heard about it or are interested. This makes all people want to see the movie, and this is great publicity for the movie. And then what’s the problem with the name of the movie? Are there no atheists in life? These are examples that exist, so what’s wrong with us shedding light on them and saying that these are wrong? When I shed light on anything wrong in life, I do so with the aim of correcting it. I haven’t seen the movie, but I imagine that in the end, this atheist will have to be convinced that there is a God in this universe and that He is the one who runs this great universe. You can correct people’s ideas through work.”
She continued: “When I make a film about addiction, of course, I bring the addict who takes a snuff and is happy, but at the end of the film, I bring him who dies because he took an overdose. I bring him who is unable to, who doesn’t have the money for drugs, and he goes crazy and screams, and his life is ruined. I am not in favor of the idea of banning anything. There are three things: religion, politics, and sex. These are the things that have always caused concern for censorship. If we didn’t see Egyptian films, wouldn’t we see American films all day that talk about atheism, sex, and religions?”
A few days ago, artist Elham Shaheen celebrated the wedding of her brother’s son, director of photography Mahmoud Shaheen, in the presence of a large number of art and singing stars.
It is noteworthy that the last participation of the artist Elham Shaheen was in the series “Alfredo” in 2023, and the artist Ahmed Fahmy co-starred with her.
