With choices that were not without significance, Angelina Jolie shone in a monochromatic look on the red carpet at the 2024 Venice Film Festival to attend the premiere of her latest film, Maria, in which she plays the main character in the biopic, as opera singer Maria Callas.

Jolie, 49, opted for a strapless, beige chiffon dress by Tamara Ralph, with a faux fur stole covering the sleeves (adding a touch of winter sparkle), and a pleated skirt.

Aesthetically, Angelina Jolie’s blonde hair was styled in a side-parted style, with minimal makeup except for bold red lips that matched her nail color, breaking up her overall earthy-toned monochrome look.

The most prominent feature of the American artist’s look was the gold brooch designed by Cartier on the shawl, which belonged to Maria Callas. The Rose Ouvrante brooch from the 1972 edition features a flower shape studded with diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires.

It is worth noting that the jewelry worn by Jolie in the movie contains a special mechanism that makes the flower petals open and close.

“I was also enchanted by the way it transformed from a closed flower to an open one. I think I made her smile. The little secret is in the piece,” the international star said in media statements.

Ahead of the red carpet, Jolie arrived at the Excelsior Hotel just hours before the premiere, wearing a brown silk Saint Laurent gown by Anthony Vaccarello with off-the-shoulder detailing.

She coordinated the look with a pair of Saint Laurent shell sunglasses, silver drop earrings, and left her golden blonde hair down.

It is worth noting that the movie “Maria” is directed by Pablo Larrain, and stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Haluk Bilginer.

In 2022, prior to filming, Jolie said of taking on the role: “I take the responsibility for Maria’s life and legacy very seriously. I will do my best to meet the challenge. Pablo Larraín is a director I have long admired. To be given the opportunity to tell more of Maria’s story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream.”

“The opportunity to combine my two deep and personal passions, cinema and opera, has been a long-awaited dream,” Larrain added. “To do so with Angelina, a very courageous and curious artist, is an incredible opportunity. It is a true gift.”

The film tells “the tumultuous, beautiful and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest opera singer, brought to life and reimagined during her final days in Paris in the 1970s,” according to the makers of the work.
