When we think we’ve finished with Michel Barnier, the former youngest elected official of the Republic at 22, he resurfaces where we least expect him, like Captain Haddock’s sticking plaster in The Calculus Affair : to everyone’s surprise, here he is now, at 73 years old, Prime Minister of the Republic after having exercised almost all the functions available in the Republic, from local elected official to minister, via the Commission or even the Brexit negotiation…

It was in this latter role that he reached the peak of his career, managing to lead the United Kingdom out on January 31, 2020, after negotiations that were both crazy and technically complex. After his unsuccessful attempt to obtain the LR nomination for the 2022 presidential election, he was thought to have finally retired. But old artists always have trouble hanging up their boots.
