“Respect for elected officials”, “proportional”, “immigration”… Marine Le Pen’s conditions for not censoring a “political government”

While the RN had indicated that it would not overthrow a “technical” government if it committed to a reform of the voting method, the president of the RN deputies finally affirmed to the Parisian that this solution would be a “last resort”.

The National Rally is revealing its hand a little. At the risk of losing its voters in conjectures. After the veto imposed on the appointment of Xavier Bertrand to Matignon, whose name circulated insistently on Tuesday morning, the party with the flame pleaded for a government «technique», led by a personality from civil society. An apolitical team that would not be subject to censorship by nationalist deputies if it adopted proportional representation with a view to possible legislative elections in 2025.

If Emmanuel Macron seems to have ruled out this option and is now leaning towards a profile “policy”, presented by both the President of Hauts-de-France and former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, Marine Le Pen seems to be softening her party’s position somewhat. Faced with the deadlock in which the country has been stuck since the legislative elections, which did not grant a majority to any bloc, the president of the RN deputies stated that same evening to the Parisian that a “technical” team would be… “a last resort solution”.

Her preference also goes towards a political prime minister, as she hammered home at the end of August at the Élysée, following her meeting with the President of the Republic. With whom she was due to speak again on Tuesday evening. Because the former presidential candidate is setting three conditions so as not to overthrow the new host of Matignon as soon as he takes office. The first requirement is that he “Do not treat us like plague victims, let him respect our elected officials”. Then, a commitment to reform the voting method for the election of deputies. Last point, that he“does not worsen the problem of immigration, of insecurity” and not “does not cut the working and modest classes in its budget.” So there is no neutrality towards Bernard Cazeneuve or the president of the CESE Thierry Baudet, whose possible appointment on rue de Varenne stirred up the political class on Monday. “He never did politics and the only time he did it was to throw up on us.”Marine Le Pen also criticizes him on the subject.

“Censorship of people whose speech we know”

Invited to France Info on Tuesday evening, the deputy of the North Sébastien Chenu returned to the scenarios presented by the Élysée. The former vice-president of the National Assembly promised to “censoring people whose speech and background he knows.” This is the profile of the two personalities remaining in the race for Matignon. If, on the contrary, were appointed “A more technical prime minister, who would have a little more restraint, would decide to open the issue of purchasing power, would begin negotiations to increase the salaries of 10% of French people in exchange for a freeze on employer contributions,” RN deputies “would not automatically censor it.”

In short, Sébastien Chenu assumes that the RN “sets its conditions very clearly” to the President of the Republic: “There is no fool’s bargain”. A temporary solution before a new dissolution. “We can’t go on like this forever, he thundered. In the end, we must ask the French people again to decide whether the situation is blocked, whether the country cannot reform itself.”
