“The reduction in the number of positions open to interns further weakens our health system”

INTERVIEW – Following the announcement of the elimination of 1,500 intern positions at the start of the school year, the general rapporteur of the Social Affairs Committee sent a formal request to the Ministers of Health and Research for the reopening of positions. For him, the students’ anger is legitimate and it is urgent to respond to it.

LE FIGARO. – You wrote to the Ministers of Health and Research so that they open more positions for interns of the 2024 class. Is there still time two weeks before the end of the position allocation process? ?

Yannick NEUDER. – It is never too late to correct an assessment that was made under the influence of surprise. The government did not expect that 1500 students would not take the exam and would prefer to lose a year to take it the following year. The ministries concerned therefore preferred to punish the “crash test” class by reducing access to certain specialties in order to force students to choose those that they consider to be suffering the most. However, they are all understaffed! By making this choice, the government has scandalized and demotivated future interns and we are losing on all counts. Less + less is still much less.
