Lessor Alpha Trains to buy 70 locomotives from Siemens

German railway manufacturer Siemens has signed a framework contract with rolling stock lessor Alpha Trains for the sale of 70 Vectron locomotives for the French market, including an initial firm order for 35 units, the two groups jointly announced on Monday, September 2. Deliveries of the first locomotives, which will be built at the Siemens plant in Munich, will take place at the end of 2026.

These will be the first Vectron locomotives delivered to France and they will be “capable of running on the north-south corridor through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and possibly Luxembourg”the two companies write in their press release. “With this latest order, we can ensure that our customers have the greatest possible operational flexibility on all their routes.”says the general manager of the locomotive division of Alpha Trains, Vincent Pouyet.

“This first contract concretizes the interest of the railway operators present in France for the Vectron”declared the president of Siemens Mobility France, Alexandre Quéméneur. “The Vectron will diversify the fleet of locomotives on the French market and open up new corridors in Europe, particularly on the north-south axis, crossing France.”he explained. These locomotives can reach a top speed of 200 km/h.

Alpha Trains is the European leader in rolling stock rental and has a fleet of 1,000 multiple units and locomotives. The company leases its equipment in 22 countries and is owned by various investment funds based in Switzerland, Great Britain and the Netherlands.
