Nuremberg player attacked for wearing Bayern Munich shirt

German Niklas-Wilson Sommer posted on his Instagram account the traces of his attack by his own supporters, who did not appreciate seeing him wearing the jersey of a rival club.

The photo is chilling. Niklas-Wilson Sommer, right-back for the German club Nuremberg (second division) published on his Instagram account on Sunday the marks of an assault he had just suffered. This attack by his own supporters follows the publication of a photo showing him wearing the jersey of Bayern Munich, Nuremberg’s enemy club.

His club’s fans had already expressed their anger at the 26-year-old during Saturday’s home game against Magdeburg, including by brandishing banners.

The German club responded in a statement: “On the night of Saturday to Sunday, one of our players was physically attacked. By lying in wait on his doorstep early in the evening, then physically attacking him a few hours later in the night, the supporters crossed all boundaries. The club will never accept players being physically attacked. […] The club condemns this behaviour in the strongest terms. It is absolutely incompatible with the values of FCN.”

An investigation was opened on Sunday evening. The 2. Bundesliga team announced that it would take legal action against the offending fans.
