Moscow says it foils ‘massive’ drone attack in western Russia

The Defense Ministry said that Russian air defense systems shot down 158 Ukrainian drones over 15 Russian regions overnight, including two over Moscow.

Russia said Sunday morning it had foiled new overnight drone attacks in the west, including one, «massive»in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, and another that targeted a power plant in the Moscow region, without reporting any casualties.

“Our defense foils an attempt of a massive drone attack over the territory of the Bryansk region”local governor Alexander Bogomaz reported around 01:00 (2200 GMT Saturday). The Defense Ministry later said that Russian air defenses shot down 158 Ukrainian drones over 15 Russian regions overnight, including two over Moscow.

The ministry reported on Telegram that the largest number of drones, 122, were shot down over the Kursk, Bryansk, Voronezh and Belgorod regions, which border Ukraine. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 10 drones targeted different districts of the capital. Russian authorities reported a fire at the Kapotnya oil refinery, owned by energy giant Gazprom, in southeast Moscow.

In the Tver region, northwest of the Russian capital, five drones targeted the area where the Konakovo power plant is located and caused a disaster that was quickly brought under control, according to Governor Igor Rudenya. In the south of the Moscow region, a night attack using three drones also targeted the Kachira coal-fired power plant, said district head Mikhail Shuvalov.

No casualties
