Attempted murder of ISF agent, Khalil Siblini prosecuted

According to information obtained by our colleague Houna Loubnan, the deputy government commissioner at the military court, judge Hani Helmi el-Hajjar, indicted Khalil Siblini, detained at the Beirut courthouse. The latter is accused of having knocked down an agent of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), George Antoun Abou Jaoudé, in downtown Beirut.

In the indictment, Judge Hajjar indicates that on December 21, on Ahmad Chawki Street, Mr. Siblini “intentionally tried to kill George Antoun Abou Jaoudé, a member of the Beirut road detachment,” while the agent of the FSI was carrying out its functions. Mr. Abou Jaoudé had asked Mr. Siblini to pull over to the side of the road. The latter refused, hit the traffic policeman and fled in his Mercedes. Mr. Abou Jaoudé having been carried by the car for a certain distance before falling to the ground, suffered physical injuries which required his transfer to the American University Hospital (AUH). His equipment was also damaged.

Judge Hajjar found that “the actions of the accused fall under Article 549, paragraph 5, of the Penal Code, in addition to Article 201, Article 733 of the Penal Code and Article 344 of Law No. 243/2012”.

Mr. Siblini was referred to the military investigating judge for questioning and for an arrest warrant to be issued against him.
